USAID OTI: Branding, GIS and Outreach

This represents the start of my professional career, I was hired through Macfadden Assoc. to serve as a graphic designer for the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI).

I began by designing OTI's visual mark (the distinctive three-part interconnected ring) and then developed multiple documents, templates, and key visuals for internal and Congressional briefings.

My role expanded to include close collaboration with the internal Geographic Information Unit (GIS), helping to visually upgrade their renowned maps and geospatial products. Upskilling the GIS team on visual hierarchy and design best practices.

My later efforts focused on creating the popular monthly program infographics, and assisting the media specialist with visuals and interactive graphics for social media and public outreach.

Role Expanded: Graphic Designer

Graphic Designer for the Office of Transition Initiatives, focused on setting the office's core visual identity, applying design principles to enhance the clarity of complex geospatial and public outreach materials.

  • Brand and Identity: Designed the OTI visual mark and developed document/presentation templates for Congressional briefings.

  • Geospatial Visualization: Collaborated with the GIS unit, learning the ESRI to vector workflow, and upskilled the team on visual hierarchy to improve map communication.

  • Public Outreach: Designed the popular monthly program infographics, assisted the media specialist with photo/video editing and annual reports.

Personal Note (Reflection 2025)

I am personally deeply disappointed by the administration's decision to dismantle USAID, an agency dedicated to delivering aid and securing stable futures for millions around the globe.

It was an honor to support the Office of Transition Initiatives, and I sincerely hope these professionals are recognized for their service, and that one day their critical mission will continue. Thank you for believing in me; it was the best possible way to start my creative career!
